About Bohemia Apiary

A Remarkably Unconventional Place to Keep Bees

“Honey bees and their pollinating allies are responsible for 30% of the world’s crops and 90% of our wild plants. Without them, much of our natural world—and our food supply—would simply disappear.”

Nestled on the scenic Eastern Shore of Maryland, Bohemia Apiary is where ancient tradition meets innovative beekeeping. Founded in 2015 by Jason Crook, our apiary began with a single colony and a deep curiosity about the incredible world of honey bees. What started as a hobby soon blossomed nearly a decade later—through research, mentorship, and a passion for the Western/ European Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) —into a thriving apiary dedicated to both bees and the people who depend on them.

Inspired by the rich history of apiculture dating back to ancient Egypt, we bring this timeless craft into the modern era with a sustainable, community-centered approach. Our methods blend time-tested techniques with thoughtful, unconventional practices that prioritize the health of our bees and the ecosystems they support.

We proudly offer:

  • Locally harvested raw honey, pollen, and pure beeswax
  • Swarm recovery and colony removals
  • Beekeeping equipment and locally bred colonies and queens
  • Educational programs, community outreach
  • Beekeeping related services (extraction, pollination, etc.)

At Bohemia Apiary, we don’t just keep bees—we cultivate a movement. One rooted in respect for nature, inspired by tradition, and driven by a mission to create a more sustainable and pollinator-friendly future.
